These are unusual highly dorso-ventrally flattened termites found in very narrow tunnels and chambers in the solid heartwood rotting tree stumps or fallen logs (and smaller branches down to c. 2 cm d). The wood may be buried beneath soil or thick moss cushions (Jones et al., 1998).
Colony centres appear to be within dead wood, as fully formed alates have been recorded from there (Jones et al., 1998). Within wood, chambers may be filled with dark-brown faecal material.
Records are often from mid-altitudes (e.g. from 1,000 m in the Maliau Basin, Sabah, Jones et al., 1998).
